Welcome Back Home - NOPD 7th District
On behalf of the 7th District, I would like to welcome everyone back to our community, after
the evacuation of Hurricane Gustav. With the exception of a few incidents, the 7th District
was well organized and patrolled for looters and other criminal activity.
We would also like to remind everyone that our "Walk The Beat Event" is around the corner
(October 18th, 2008) and we are in need of participants and/or donations to help facilitate our
daily needs of operation.
The cost for the race is $20.00, or a donation of whatever you can afford. Please spread the word
to your family, friends, and neighbors. I would more than happy to bring anyone an enrolment form if
needed.( We will have some available at the 7th district)
Code Enforcement Update
Attached is the newest Code Enforcement Newsletter. It in it you will find the city’s recent progress towards
overhauling the code enforcement system, recent code enforcement efforts and new initiatives to address blight.
The city has made significant progress towards reforming the code enforcement system and is now
performing thousands of inspections and hundreds of hearings each month. However, there is still
work that needs to be done in order to create a comprehensive system which will identify, prosecute
and redevelop all of the blighted properties in New Orleans. Creating this system is one of Mayor Nagin
and Dr. Blakely’s top priorities. The purpose of the Code Enforcement Newsletters is to keep the public informed
about these efforts.

The New Orleans Index Anniversary Edition: Three Years After Katrina is now available.
For the first time, we offer a glimpse of the recovery of New Orleans by neighborhood,
including data on population recovery, jobs, blighted housing, and flood risk for New
Orleans's 13 planning districts. Check it out...
Aug 2008 -- Greater New Orleans approaches the end of its third year of recovery from a position of strength, with the
vast majority of its pre-storm population and jobs. But many recovery trends have slowed or stagnated in the past
year as tens of thousands of blighted properties, lack of affordable housing for essential service and construction workers,
and thin public services continue to plague the city and region. A strong federal-state-local partnership must continue
to further the hard work of recovery, which is now well underway.
You can download the Summary of Findings with at-a-glance graphs and maps, or the entire Index at:

GRAND OPENING - Rebuilding Information Station
A collaborative effort of the LSU-AgCenter, UNO-CHART, Tulane City Center, and The Road Home has
led to the creation of a Rebuilding Information Station (RIS) on the UNO Lakefront campus. The
RIS is envisioned as an educational resource for community organizations such as yours in their
efforts to help homeowners in the rebuilding process.
The neighborhood associations have been a critical player in the recovery of New Orleans. We can
learn a great deal from your experiences which will in turn help us to gear our outreach efforts to
the needs of the neighborhood associations and their members. Click here for our the grand opening flyer.
